#Opinion: Residents highlight priorities ahead of Mayoral Imbizo

The IDP imbizo for KDM's southern wards will be held at Umhlali Prep this evening at 6pm.

Residents will gather at Umhlali Prep School this Thursday at 6pm for KwaDukuza’s annual IDP Budget Imbizo presentation to the southern wards (Ballito, Salt Rock and Sheffield).

Ahead of the meeting, we turned to our Facebook community to find out which issues they want prioritised – here are their views:

Mart Li – Leadership replacement and employment of humble, honest, competent, hardworking people who have a heart for the people, and not for greed and ego.

Michael Pearce – The electrical substation behind Umhlali Country Club, general maintenance of roads and electrical infrastructure and definitely actual policing of bylaws.

Eduard Louw – Our Early Childhood Development centres around the KwaDukuza. The future building blocks of our nation need our help and intervention to secure a future for all. No children, no future.

Zamo Mngadi – Shaka’s Head needs a high school and please consider employing social workers in schools.

Bongeka Chili – All predominantly disadvantaged residential areas need urgent infrastructural and skills transfer attention.

Prem Maharaj – The municipality needs staff and fleet vetting. I think we have too many so called electricians who cannot repair a light, the overtime is mind-boggling. We also need a system for staff reporting.

Farmer Msabe – We need urgent intervention with regards to housing in Driefontein (Ward 21). Qoqulwazi High School is overcrowded!

Vyasen Moodley – First of all, why is KwaDukuza run by two municipalities. This for me is daylight robbery. Why can’t KwaDukuza run our water affairs? (Ed – KDM does not manage water
services directly because, under the Water Services Act, this responsibility sits with the district municipality. The district handles bulk supply and infrastructure, while local municipalities only manage distribution.)
