#ReportBack: Outdated traffic study delays installation of intersection traffic light
New assessment proposed for submission to transport department.
For the benefit of ward 22 residents who could not attend the public meeting on December 3, I’d like to highlight some of the key issues discussed.
The festive season operational plan in conjunction with the Salt Rock Neighbourhood Watch, CPF, iLembe Chamber of Commerce and community stakeholders to support the KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) and Saps operations, was rolled out on December 7.
KDM has allocated additional cleaning staff to beach nodes and public spaces during extended hours over the season. Extra lifeguards have also been employed and the community is urged to report by-law transgressions to the municipal control room at 032 946 2711.
Pothole repairs are currently underway on provincial roads, and while streetlights have been repaired in November, more work on Salt Rock main road towards the main beach must be prioritised before the start of the festive season.
The traffic impact assessment relating to the Dunkirk-New Salt Rock city intersection is too outdated for the Department of Transport to consider signalisation. It is proposed a traffic engineer undertake a new assessment for submission to the department department.
