#Letter: Deepening a connection with God through the Passover feast

Salt Rock resident Bonita Cherry shares her awe-inspiring experience of the religious tradition.

This Easter I am pulled by the call to dig deeper and discover more. To know God on a far deeper level. To see more of His original intent for us. His story of redemption and the significance of following His times and seasons.

Last week at Wave Church was awe inspiring as we were taught the meaning and symbolism of The Passover feast and how it all points to Jesus. The perfect sacrifice that fulfilled the law and made a way for our freedom.

I sat with tears running down as the opening words of the Seder were spoken in Hebrew. In the telling of the Exodus, the leader lifts the broken middle matzah (unleavened flatbread) and proclaims in Aramaic:

“This is the bread of affliction that our ancestors ate in the land of Egypt.

All who are hungry, let them come and eat;

All who are needy, let them come and celebrate Passover.

Now we are here; next year in the land of Israel!

Now we are slaves; next year may we be free!”

This invitation both recalls Israel’s bondage and opens the table to anyone in need, setting the tone of hospitality and remembrance that defines the Seder night.

The night the Israelites were set free from the bondage of Egypt. The night that foretold God’s eternal rescue plan as He prophetically paved the way for the salvation of us all.

He created us for Himself, for intimate relationship with Him, from before the time that creation was conceived. This connection starts with ‘The Perfect Passover Lamb’.
