Ballito’s boxing community is beginning to blossom with a number of fighters seeing action this year.
Two boxers from Ringside Boxing Gym in Ballito will step into the ring for their first official professional fights next week.
Armand Herbst and Sean Steyn will both enter the ring on Sunday, June 15 in Pinetown.
Herbst will be fighting in a light heavy-weight bout while Steyn will be fighting in a catch weight division just under 90 kilograms.
The boxers both train locally and have had their fair share of fighting experience.
“I started boxing when I was 17 and moved to MMA. I made my way back to boxing last year,” said Herbst.
“I have had a couple of fights but this is my first professional fight. I feel well prepared and I have been training very hard,” he added.
Steyn, who also coaches at Ringside, is a seasoned amateur.
“I have been boxing since I was 15. While I have had over 20 amateur bouts over the years, this is my first pro fight,” said Steyn.
The coach is enjoying his time in the ring and out of it and believes the Contender gym is a great place for boxers to develop.
“Ringside is an awesome gym with a really good atmosphere and we are all dedicated and passionate about boxing and fitness. I think success is all about hard work. We train hard and fight easy,” said Steyn.
However, the sport is about more than just glory. As a coach Steyn wants to add accreditation to his CV. “I love coaching and conditioning our members at Ringside, fighting keeps me in shape,” he said.
