The Ballito Lions smacked the ball out of the park for charity at the annual Ricky Braham cricket festival at Umhlali preparatory school on Sunday.
The event raised a total of R22 000 for various charities.
Twelve teams of eight players each competed to win the eight-over tournament and the contestants went all out hitting a record number of boundaries. Team Cross Batters were declared the winning team with Team Blap as runners up.
The day concluded with a prize giving ceremony at which a cheque for R4000 was handed over to the Quadriplegic Association.
The festival is held in memory of late Ballito resident Ricky Braham, who became a quadriplegic after a violent hijacking. He died before he could get special medical attention in the U.K.
He was an avid cricket fan and the cricket festival was first organised to raise funds for his treatment.
The Slogger’s Stuart Whittaker hits a six.
Team Blap fought hard to secure their runners up position amid stiff competition: Tony Ferrierra, Gregg Cunningham, Jason Chapman, Justin Colley, Morkel Pierce, Jasob Walters, Paul Mauls, Will Spence-Wilson, JUmbo Steel and Michael Harborth.
