Community comes together for Anthea Boswell

Westbrook ski boat club members fish for good cause.

The value of true friends really come to the fore in tough times.

The members of the Westbrook Ski Boat Club proved this again when they showed their friendship and community spirit on Saturday at the the Anthea Boswell benefit fishing competition.

Anthea fractured two vertebrae in a boating accident last month, beaching off Westbrook after a day out fishing. The accident has left her wheelchair bound for the near future.

As Anthea and her husband, Dudley, have been very involved in the club for many years and have contributed where possible, the club wanted to give back to the Boswells during this though time.

The day started with a fishing competition, followed by delicious food, a raffle, auction and entertainment.

“It was a fantastic day, we had over 20 boat entries and more than 50 anglers and the auction was a great success,” said Shaun Cothill, the secretary of the club.

He said that the club committee are still working out how much money was raised in total, but he thinks it will be around R25,000.

The money raised will be used to make the Boswell home wheelchair friendly.

Jill Lynch was the winner of the ladies competition and caught a 10,5kg Wahoo and a 7,5kg Dorado, which Anthea really enjoyed.
