Blue skies, warm sand and a light breeze set the scene for the Furever Pet Rescue beach volleyball fundraiser on Sunday, March 29.
What unfolded was like a scene from Baywatch; guys and girls in boardshorts and bikinis enjoying snacks and drinks on beach chairs and bean bags under colourful gazebos and umbrellas with boom boxes spitting out tunes in the background.
The conditions were perfect for beach volleyball and teams enjoyed some friendly competition while catching a tan.
A dip in the temperate water provided just what the volleyball players needed after sweating it out on the beach court.
The Dolphin Coast magic was complete when a pod of dolphins showed up, right on cue, to wow beachgoers with their playful acrobatics.
With all 36 player spots filled and a net profit of R4 859,96 raised for Furever Pet Rescue, the day was a resounding success.
“We play once a month at different beaches and hold a charity volleyball day every three months. It is a great way to get out and meet people,” said Furever Pet Rescue’s Cheryl Herda.
Herda invited anyone interested in being added to the player list for both charity and regular volleyball games to email her at cherylherda@gmail.com.
She said they have two puppies, two adult dogs and two kittens that need homes and anyone willing to foster or adopt can email her at the same address.
