Ballito lifesaving making waves

Little lifesavers steal the stage at Championships.

A strong contingent of Ballito lifesaving club members will be competing in the 2015 Stillwater National Championships at Addington beach in Durban at the end of April.

Agostinho Coelho, Kristian Muller, Bailey Duncan, Nicola Herbst, Giovanna Palacio, Chad Hoggan, Ludwig Herbst, Tannah Duncan, Chanel Bates, Zoë Frank, Milla Herbst and Megan Bates will be hoping to fly the Dolphin Coast flag high as they take on the best in South Africa. Zoë, Chanel, Milla and Megan have also all been selected to represent KZN at these championships.

The 12 young competitors have been doing special training in Ashton College’s pool to prepare for the tough open water event.

The Ballito lifesaving club has already produced some strong results this year with many of its younger members excelling at the KZN Nipper Surf Lifesaving Championships.

Dressed to impress in their bright orange shirts, the team secured numerous top 10 finishes with Amy du Plessis, Kristian Muller, Nicola Herbst, Tristan Hoyle, Milla Herbst, Tannah Duncan, Janke Spangenberg and Chad Hoggan leading the way.

Nicola Herbst secured a third place in the under nine girls bodyboard competition while Amy du Plessis took third place in the girls under nine beach sprint.

The under 10 surf swim team came seventh out of more than 20 teams, while Chad and Ludwig Herbst made the bodyboard finals. Ludwig and Josh Roberts made surf swim finals and Callum Steer made it through to the final round of beach sprints.
