All Stars shine at Tongaat Hulett soccer tourney

Youth Day soccer tournament provided much fun and entertainment.

The Macambini community came out in numbers to support the Simamisa and Tongaat Hulett Youth Day soccer tournament held by Simamisa Farming and Tongaat Hulett on Saturday at the Macambini sport field.

The annual tournament was won by Macambini All Stars, beating Dokodweni FC United by 1-0. Sphelele Magubane scored the important goal for his team and walked away with the man of the match award.

The game was played in a good spirit by both teams and characterised by skillfull dribbling and impressive moves from especially the wingers.

Some top-drawer football was played by the under 15 boys in the junior division as Macambini Revolution beat King King FC from Dokodweni by 3-1.

King King scored during the first minute of the first half but Syabonga Mathaba equalised just before half time.

Sthembiso Mathaba and Syabonga Zungu scored goals in the second half to settle the result.

Revolution was excelling in the field with Zamo Khuzwayo showboating on the right wing. He walked away with the man of the match award in the junior division.

The tournament started in May with about 40 teams competing from the Macambini area, which is divided in four zones, namely Dokodweni, Hwebethe, Wangu and Nyathini zones.

Facilitator Nathi Ndlovu said since the tournament started in 2012, there had been an improvement in both players and the support of the community.

“With about 40 teams in our area, we wish to have a league one day and we appreciate what has been done by Tongaat Hulett and Simamisa Farming for our youth,” said Ndlovu.

The tournament was also attended by the Macambini king, Chief Mthokozisi Mathaba.
