Well done to all the eight Dolphins who took part in the recent 16km Mtunzini Bush Challenge. Before the race runners could be seen huddled around fires to keep warm. The route was challenging but very scenic and takes participants through the pristine Siyaya Coastal Park, incorporating indigenous dune forest, beach and off-road terrain.
Change can be a terrifying thing but it can also be a wonderful opportunity to discover and embark on a new journey. As announced at last week’s time trial, Dolphins are on the move. From September we will be hosting time trials and running from the Salt Rock Country Club. This decision was made with careful consideration, thought and planning. We encourage all members to come down to the current thatch clubhouse on Wednesday, August 19 at 6.30pm (after time trial) to find out about the rationale behind the decision and the new vision for the club.
Due to a decline in numbers and growing popularity of the Nelson Mandela run, the Dolphin Coast Ultra and 21km will no longer be taking place in September. A new and exciting race will now be hosted on December 20 with both 10 and 21km distances. More details will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Circumstances or buildings might change but the fundamental essence of the Dolphins remains solid. We are a community based club made up of runners and walkers that are proud to call Dolphin Coast Striders their running home. This “home” remains filled with friendship, fun, and a shared love for the sport. Most importantly DCS supports and encourages its members to achieve their goals, whether this is 5km, half a marathon or the mighty Comrades.
