Bringing the best where it belongs
The netball league initiative reaches about 240 youth that will now be kept busy every afternoon, training for their netball games.
The youth from townships throughout the Kwadukuza region now have another alternative to drugs and crime – sport. A new new Dolphin Coast netball league was launched at the Nkobongo Community Hall last weekend to much excitement.
The initiative reaches around 240 youth that will now be kept busy every afternoon, training for their netball games.
Chairperson of the league, Queen Ndlovu, said the purpose of the league is to bring back the lost reputation of sport in Nkobongo, but to make it more inclusive and entertaining they also have teams from other townships, including Hambanathi, Lindelani and Darnall.
There are currently 13 teams, five of them will compete in the under 17 category, five will compete in the open division and there are three boys teams.
“We have a big problem of drugs in our townships, so with this kind of sports development initiative, we will be able to save a few, if not many, young people from falling into the drug trap,” said Ndlovu.
The teams will compete at the Nkobongo Community Hall and Tongaat Indoor sport centre.
Ndlovu said they are looking for a sponsor, so that when it comes to the end of the season, there can be rewards for the winners.
“We will accept any sponsorship that we can get to help our teams,” said Ndlovu.
