Prepare for the scenic Bummer Beach run/walk
The second staging of the event has been brought forward in the year to take advantage of cooler weather.
Riverside Trail and Durban Athletic Club are organising the second Bummer Beach Run and Walk on Sunday June 19.
The long event (about 23km) starts at Ballito from Gianni’s Ristorante.
The medium event (about 15km) will start at Beach Bums, and the short event (about 6km) will start on Umdloti Beach near Java Café.
All distances finish at Hawaan View Park, Umhlanga.
The coastline is scenic and unspoiled and there are many interesting landmarks along the beach, such as Zimbali, Tongaat River, rocky outcrops, Westbrook, Casuarina trees, the haunted house and the wreck at Beach Bums, Umdloti lagoon and the beautiful coastal forest, Umdloti, Peace Cottage, Umhlanga lagoon and possible fish eagle sightings and Neptune’s Throne.
The name of the event also picks up on the “beach bum” theme, and is derived from the long event being held from Ballito to Umhlanga.
The second staging of the event has been brought forward in the year to take advantage of cooler weather.
A dedicated website has been created, go to www.bummerbeachrun.co.za to enter or for those who prefer, enter at Durban Athletic Club, King’s Park Athletic Track on Thursday evenings between 5.15pm and 7.30pm.
The event charity partner is PinkDrive (www.pinkdrive.co.za) well known for their work in breast cancer. The underlying message from PinkDrive is that “early detection saves lives”.
Before the Bummer race, PinkDrive will again be present at the Comrades Marathon, the second to last seconding point near the Tollgate Bridge will be theirs.
