Ballito Parkrun turns one

The route runs through the sugarcane and on the mountain biking track at Sugar Rush Park.

Every Saturday at 8am around the country and all over the world, millions of people come together for Parkrun, a 5km route in a park or on the beach promenade.

This weekend marked a year since Ballito joined the family.

The run saw parkrunners tackling 5km on the 52nd park run.

The route runs through the sugarcane and on the mountain biking track at Sugar Rush Park.

The Ballito route goes past Collisheen Estate and the Ballito airfield, joining the mountain bike single track which winds and bends through the trees and then up the hill towards the coffee shop at Sugar Rush to finish.

This year saw J J Botha winning the Ballito park run in a blistering 19 minutes and 13 seconds with Grant van der Walt coming in at a close second.

People of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to join the run which is free of charge and volunteer based. Interested runners can register at www.parkrun.co.za.
