Arrows scout Mandeni

This was first time the annual event hosted by Tongaat Hulett, was attended by representatives of the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the Mandeni local municipality.

The youth of Macambini, Mandeni were thrilled to see some of their local football stars being scouted by Lamontville Golden Arrows coach, Mandla Ncikazi last Thursday.

Ncikazi was one of KZN’s football giants who attended the Macambini Sport Day, hosted by Tongaat Hulett, Simamisa and the Macambini Tribal Authority.

Sanele Ndlovu from Real Knockers and Sibusiso Khumalo from Revolution FC were among the players selected for the U17 team.

Striker and goalkeeper, Sphelele Magubane and Thami Shandu in the senior team, were also identified for further development and support by the Golden Arrows coach.

The Real Knockers U17 and Macambini Football Club (FC) seniors were crowned the overall winners of the nail-biting tournament.

In 2012, Tongaat Hulett, in partnership with Simamisa and the Macambini Tribal Authority, invested R1.1 million towards the renovation of a local sports ground and launched the Macambini Sports Day on Youth Day.

This was first time the annual event hosted by Tongaat Hulett, was attended by representatives of the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the Mandeni local municipality.

A wide range of training and development opportunities for the local coaches, youth and players were highlighted by the SAFA representatives.

Following this, Tongaat Hulett and the Macambini traditional council have committed to engaging further with SAFA to ensure a programme is developed for 2017.

Nkonzo Mhlongo, Tongaat Hulett socio-economic development manager said that in addition to promoting sport development they have also invested significant resources to improve the culture of learning and education in the area.
