Karate into the Olympics

"Our karate kids can now make their dreams of taking the Olympic stage in 2020 at the Tokyo Games a reality" - Sonny Pillay Hanshi.

South African karate legend and president of KSA, Sonny Pillay Hanshi, expressed his sheer delight upon receiving the news last week that karate is now officially an Olympic sport.

“Our karate kids can now make their dreams of taking the Olympic stage in 2020 at the Tokyo Games a reality!”, exclaimed the excited Pillay.

“We believe that decision by the IOC will catapult the sport into the big leagues in terms of corporate sponsorships and Karate SA expects the sports to grow in leaps and bounds locally”, said Pillay who also serves as vice president of the Commonwealth karate federation.

He went on to say that KSA looks forward to expediting development, especially in the KZN rural areas, so the karate youth of today can reach all the way to the next Olympics.

For all karate enquiries you can call the KSA on 031 564 1408 or email Pillay at president@karate-sa.org.
