Mad Dog frothing at the mouth for EFC championship
This will be the first time that a women's fight will headline at EFC and it's the organisation's much anticipated return to the golden shores of Durban
Ballito’s own mixed martial arts (MMA) master fighter, Amanda ‘Mad Dog’ Lino is looking forward to taking the EFC championship in Durban in June.
The EFC women’s flyweight division was steeped in controversy last year when the inaugural title fight was cancelled between Lino and Johannesburg’s Shana ‘Titanium’ Power.
Now, after months of waiting, a new challenger has risen from the proverbial ashes to face Lino for the EFC championship – and Pretoria’s ‘Demolition’ Jacqualine Trosee wants vengeance.
Trosee defeated Power at EFC 56, earning her chance to match herself against Ballito’s ‘Mad Dog’ and setting up one of the most anticipated rematches in the organisation’s storied history, as this time the first women’s EFC flyweight championship is at stake.
The first-time Lino and Trosee collided, fans witnessed a highly aggressive and powerful athlete that caught Trosee very quickly and finished the fight via TKO in just ten seconds.
Fans never got to see what Trosee was truly capable of. This time a different story will likely unfold.
It is fitting that the landmark 60th event will also be making history; this will be the first time that a women’s fight will headline at EFC and it’s the organisation’s much anticipated return to the golden shores of Durban, the city many consider the birthplace of African MMA.
“I couldn’t be happier fighting in Durban for the title,” stated Lino.
“It is my home town, I will have a lot of support for this fight and having family and friends share this historical moment is very important.”
Lino commented on her opponent, “I expected Trosee to beat Shana, even though I would have liked to fight her myself. I know Jacqui will bring her best and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
She concluded, “I don’t want to face the Jacqui of old, I want to face the women that beat Shana, so I know when I win; I have beaten the best.”
EFC 60: Lino vs Trosee 2, presented by BetXchange.com takes place on Saturday, June 10 at Sibaya Casino, Durban.
