The King of the Sea!

All the rain leading up to the competition certainly muddied the waters and Thursday saw a current coming up from the south.

Four days of fanatic fishing saw Kevin Tait win the Overall Species award and Byrone Kane the King of Salmon at the Ballito Ski Boat Fishing Club’s Seaman Challenge over the weekend.

All the rain leading up to the competition certainly muddied the waters and Thursday saw a current coming up from the south. This soon reversed as the challenge continued.

By Saturday the sea and surf were not looking promising and more than one skipper had a difficult launch. Fortunately the sun was out and it soon became a beautiful day for fishing.

For the land-lubbers, there was a festive beer garden at Salmon Bay, great raffle prizes as well as live music and a great atmosphere that saw locals and holidaymakers alike stop by for a cold one.

In the Overall Species category behind Tait were Kenneth Hodgson and Donovan Harvey in second and third, while Keano van der Merwe took top spot in the Junior Species event, followed by Tristan Thakwray and Brayden Kane.

Kane was also crowned the Junior King of Salmon.

Martin Taljaard of the organising committee thanked all the sponsors, fisherman and supporters who came out to make this such a fantastic tournament and said they were planning another competition for late March 2018.
