Youth Day sports bonanza

Host ward councillor Doeshie Govender thanked everyone for taking part and promised that this would become an annual event.

More than 4000 people from Etete, Shakaskraal, Shayamoya, Nkobongo and Shaka’s Head gathered at the Shakaskraal Primary and High School grounds for the Youth Games on Saturday.

The games were organised by local councillors.

Semcorp Siza Water sponsored the teams with sports kits and the Dolphin Coast Taxi Association sponsored free transport to the event and prize money.

“Thank you so much to all our sponsors and we hope to see more people and companies getting involved in these games,” said Govender.

The champions, ward 23 (Shayamoya) soccer team before their final match on Saturday.

The youth competed in different sporting codes, including soccer, netball, volleyball, chess and karate.

The crowd was entertained by quality football played by ward 20 (Etete) and ward 23 (Shayamoya) in the final match.

The game ended in a goalless draw and Shayamoya won on penalties 4-2.
