Swish dancing girls win acclaim

A number of the dancers have qualified to join the Talent Africa South African team and earned Federation of Performing Arts in South Africa colours.

Swish Studios had a very successful year of dance, with pupils winning numerous accolades throughout the year.

Competitions included the World Dance Federation Regional Competition at Curro Salt Rock in May, the South African Body of Dance Regional Competition at Greyville in June, the Talent Africa

Regional Competition in July in Richards Bay and most recently the Natal Festival of Dance at Reddam in Umhlanga.

Gabriella Biagi won overall trophy for the ballet improvisation section at the KZN Festival of Dance.

She was placed second in her character modern section and third for her duet and her musical theatre sections.

Evelyn Davidson won third place for her duet section, and second place for her lyrical and ballet solos at the KZN Festival of Dance.

Mikella Tipping won first place for both her lyrical and her ballet solos at the KZN Festival of Dance and at the World Dance Federation Regionals.

Hannah Wilkins and Ava Lewis both bagged a first place for their jazz solo at the KZN Festival of Dance, Rafaela Rocha taking third.

Jaanvi Kalopdeo, Julia Towell and Arabella Graham.

Mia Towel Received a TOP 10 Award Dancer and Diamond award for her Musical Theatre Routine at the Talent Africa Nationals, second for her classical ballet solo and third for her character modern and Musical Theatre solos at the KZN Festival of Dance.

Caylea Duncan placed second in her jazz solo and Jaanvi Kalopdeo placed third.

Arabella Graham received a Silver award for her jazz solo at Talent Africa Nationals and a Gold award for her lyrical solo.

The U14 jazz group received a third placing, the U11 lyrical group received a first at the KZN Festival of Dance, the U16 jazz group took home third place and the lyrical group received a first place, while the musical theatre group received a third place.

Hannah Wilkins also took part in the Theatre Dance Association Move Competition and received a second place in the Nationals Silver Qualifying section.

Some Swish dancers have also qualified to compete in Dublin for the World Lyrical Federation World Championships in 2023.
