Racing is in the DNA of Ballito brothers Shrien and Dhivyen Naidoo

Dhivyen made his international debut in October this year when he was selected to represent South Africa at the FIA Motorsport Games in Marseille, France.

Racing runs deep in the blood of Ballito brothers, Shrien (19) and Dhivyen (14) Naidoo.

From Malaysia to France and Portugal, these talented go-kart racers have represented South Africa around the world.

“Sharing this passion with my brother is both fun and competitive. We are always debating about who is the best,” said Dhivyen.

Older brother Shrien said racing together had created a strong bond between them.

“We always support each other,” he said.

Shrien fell in love with the sport the moment he first laid eyes on a go-kart. He started go-karting at the age of five and joined the KZN Kart Club by the time he was seven.

“We were at a Top Gear show in Johannesburg when I saw a go-kart on display. I knew I had to have one,” he said.

At first, watching his brother from the sidelines was enough for Dhivyen as he was afraid to try it. But by age six he was behind the driving wheel.

“I was forced to go into a go-kart the first time, but as soon as I was inside, I fell in love with it,” he said.

Since then the duo have had many successful races, earning themselves an excellent reputation within the sport.

In 2019, they were both awarded KZN colours.

Dhivyen made his international debut in October this year when he was selected to represent South Africa at the FIA Motorsport Games in Marseille, France.

Dhivyen was the youngest of four racers selected to represent South Africa at the FIA Motorsport Games in Marseille, France.

In July, Shrien won the Rotax Africa Open in the Senior Max category.

This victory earned him a spot on the South African team for the Rotax Grand Finals in Portimão, Portugal, which took place in November.

The KZN Kart Club awarded him the Driver of the Year award.

So it seems things are about to get even more competitive in the Naidoo household, as Shrien and Dhivyen will soon be racing in the same categories.
