Knockout boxing competition for a good cause

BOX032 hosted a charity fight night at La Montagne, which saw 12 intense white collar bouts.

La Montagne played host to a feast for fans of the sweet science with twelve white collar boxing bouts on show last weekend.

Fighters from flyweight through to light-heavyweight had the opportunity to show off their skills in front of a lively 100-strong crowd.

None of the fighters were professionals, but it did not stop them from putting on some showstopping battles as they got a taste for entering the ring in public.

Eleven male bouts and one female bout took place over the course of Saturday afternoon, with the welterweight fight of Tristan Lee vs Jerome Reddy and the women’s featherweight match-up of Micaela Henning and Baraza Aisha being particular highlights.

Organised by BOX032 Ballito and Callan Scrooby and sponsored by Freddy South Africa and RVCA, the event served as a fundraiser for two local causes.

The first was for the parents of premature baby Zayleigh, who sadly passed away last year. Parents Jacques Ferrie and Tanya Davel are raising funds for tests to determine the exact cause of death.

This will allow them both closure and clarity on whether they could have another child together or whether their genetics are incompatible.

The second is for the carers of two-year-old Rade, who is experiencing medical issues that are potentially the result of fetal alcohol syndrome.

He is not on medical aid and testing procedures are costly for the family who have taken over Rade’s guardianship.

The fundraising figures from the event were not yet available at time of print.
