Umhlali’s clubs face off

Plenty action on the golf and bowls greens.

Going low to score high, the Umhlali ladies golf fun bunch recently took on an unusual challenge, the ‘par is the enemy’.

In the format, the ladies played in better ball pairs, with pars and bogeys adding nothing to their score.

Birdies added +1, eagles added +2 while dreaded double bogeys took away a -1. So do not scratch your eyes, the higher the score the better in this case.

Charmaine Bruwer and Tracylee Raison took the honours, finishing on +9 for the day, which included an Eagle from Raison on the 14th.

Estelle Elliott and Colleen Coppin (+6) finished second, with Theresa Rattray and Bev Mould (+6) taking bronze in a count out.

Carryl Legassick won the week’s closest to the pin prize.

John Randall (visitor), Dawn Griffiths and Rob de Kock beam after winning the Duncan Draw.

On the other greens at the club, Umhlali’s bowlers have had a busy month, lining up for weekly competitions.

Robin Gracie, Clive Nicosia, Lynn McCarthy and Rob Prout took the spoils in the Pick n Pay Cup on February 28.

It was the turn of Krish Mudaly, Kevin de Kok, Alan and Kerry-Ann Perry the next week when the foursome won the President’s Cup.

For the Local Real Estate event on March 9, Faye Pedlar, André Whitehorn and Stella Halcomb reigned supreme.

Closing out a close fought month of action, John Randall (visitor), Dawn Griffiths and Rob de Kok grabbed gold in the Duncan Draw.
