Golf days raise more than R200 000 for orphans

The Orphan Fund channels funds to non-governmental organisations that specialise in caring for orphans and vulnerable children within the North Coast Courier's circulation area.

Sixty-four golfers rallied to support The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund golf day at Simbithi last Thursday.

The competition for top spot was friendly but fierce.

At the end of a scorching day, however, first place was grabbed by Silvester Pillay, Aaron Pather, Samalan Sarugesar and Praneil Lalli on 89 points.

They were followed by Michael Sigasa, Ravi Govender and Jabulani Mafuleka on 87 points.

The closest to the pin award went to Rory Mitchell on the eighth hole, with second closest to the pin prize taken by Stuart Hill on the 17th.

Longest drives on the day were by Michael Sigasa on the 12th and Jabulani Mafuleka on the 18th.

A hole-in-one by Selwyn Naidoo was a highlight. The fund also extended its thanks to him for a generous donation.

“We would like to express our gratitude to all who supported the event and made it the success that it was. We could not have done any of it without all of your support, especially our sponsors,” said Orphan Fund coordinator, Charmaine Premlall.

Through the event the fund managed to raise R102 550, with the prior week’s golf day at Umhlali Country Club raising R109 460.

The Orphan Fund was established with the purpose of channelling money raised to non-governmental organisations that specialise in caring for orphans and vulnerable children within the Courier’s circulation area.

This year marks 20 years of the fund coming to the aid of the most vulnerable within our communities.
