Nothing but net for Ballito Basketball League

In the first game, Yachts of Fun's (YOF) blue team earned a comfortable victory over Eden Village Prep School's white team, scoring a massive 57 points to Eden's 22.

Junior basketball is increasing in popularity on the North Coast, one league game at a time.

The Ballito Basketball League last Friday played its third round of fixtures at Townsend Park, with four high quality games on show.

The fixture was a special one for league founder Kent Vanderyacht, who last year raised money to build the basketball facilities at the park in an attempt to boost the sport’s local popularity.

“It is such a pleasure to see everyone using the court every time I go up to the park,” he said.

In the first game, Yachts of Fun’s (YOF) blue team earned a comfortable victory over Eden Village Prep School’s white team, scoring a massive 57 points to Eden’s 22.

YOF’s white team eked out a close-fought win in the second game, with strong ball handling from Nkosi Hadebe helping them to overcome Eden’s blue team.

Top scorer in the league, Reddam’s big man Faye Harrison, uses his size to get open against three defenders from Shakaskraal SA Primary.

Reddam House Ballito’s unbeaten record was in jeopardy when they faced Shakaskraal SA Primary in match three.

Big man and star player, Faye Harrison, scored 18 of the team’s 25 points to edge out Shakaskraal by just three points.

Game four was all about the defensive side of the ball as Beaches earned their first win against RA Padayachee 8-7.

YOF’s two teams and Reddam remain unbeaten with some big clashes upcoming as the league moves to Eden for its next set of fixtures.

There will also be a chance for a team from Vanderyacht’s Hearts That Hope children’s home to get in on the action.
