Ballito FC enjoy Premier League training session

The training session, held at Curro Salt Rock last Thursday, was the second in two years after a partnership was formed when Ballito FC chairman, Steve Welsh, visited the United Kingdom last year.

Ballito FC’s young stars had a brush with football royalty when AFC Bournemouth coaches took them for a special training session last week.

Six coaches made the trip from the south of England as part of their global community programme, which had stops in Johannesburg and Durban before heading to Cape Town.

Led by the club’s head of community and coach of AFC Bournemouth women’s team, Steve Cuss, the coaching staff brought Premier League quality experience and tips for the youngsters.

“Our main objective is of course for the kids to enjoy themselves, but we also try and spread good practices and training ideas,” said Cuss.

And it was a perfect learning opportunity for Ballito FC’s coaching staff too, many of whom have earned their badges through the club and were no doubt thrilled to take on some tips.

The training session, held at Curro Salt Rock last Thursday, was the second in two years after a partnership was formed when Ballito FC chairman, Steve Welsh, visited the United Kingdom last year.

“We are so grateful that the coaches have included us for the second year running. You can see what it means to our players and it will no doubt prove helpful for their growth in the sport,” said Welsh.

It speaks to the quality of Ballito FC’s operation that AFC Bournemouth wanted to return and it appears that Ballito will be a regular stop on the annual trips.

“We have a global community network, with international projects on a number of continents, but particularly in Africa and Asia. We feel it is important to help foster the interest in the game in these areas while developing the talent available,” said Cuss.

The coaches took two one hour sessions, first with the U6 to U10 teams and later the U11 to U17s.

It was a particularly special moment for Ballito FC’s girls team to get direct coaching advice from Cuss who manages a professional women’s team and is passionate about growing the women’s game.

This year is the first time that Ballito FC has had a dedicated girls team and it has so far been a huge success.
