Brazilian Ryan Kainalo triumphs at Ballito Pro

Japan's Anon Matsuoka ousts American Alyssa Spencer to claim female title.

In an exhilarating display of skill and determination, 17-year-old Brazilian Ryan Kainalo successfully defended his title at the annual Ballito Pro O’Neill SMTH Shapes Rookie Rippers competition held at  Willard Beach today.

Facing off against South African contender Daniel Emslie, Kainalo demonstrated his prowess by securing an impressive score of 15.00, surpassing Emslie’s commendable 13.7.

“Being here in Ballito is always a delightful experience, and I absolutely adore everything about this place. Winning once again fills me with immense happiness, and now my sights are set on the next challenge,” said an elated Kainalo.

The women’s final showcased a captivating battle between Japan’s Anon Matsuoka and American Alyssa Spencer. Matsuoka struck top form, securing a  score of 16.07, while Spencer’s valiant effort earned her 15.66.

Delighted by her well-deserved triumph and grateful for the opportunity to compete against one of her favourite surfers, Matsuoka expressed her excitement about her visit to Ballito.

“Winning feels incredible, and going up against Spencer made it even more special. This is my inaugural experience in Ballito, and I am thoroughly enjoying every moment of it,” Matsuoka said with enthusiasm.
