Historic Ballito Pro para surfing session spreads joy and inspiration

Excitement radiated from the surfers as they received assistance to reach the shore, where eager volunteers awaited to help them catch the waves.

Willard Beach was filled with heartwarming scenes as holidaymakers and locals gathered to witness the inaugural Ballito Pro Para Surfing Expression Session on Saturday.

Excitement radiated from the surfers as they received assistance to reach the shore, where eager volunteers awaited to help them catch the waves.

Among the inspiring participants was Similo Dlamini, hailing from KwaMashu, who, alongside other surfers, received support from the non-profit organisation, Made For More.

At 39 years old, Dlamini has been passionately pursuing her love for surfing for the past two years and currently holds the title of South African para surfing champion.

“Today, we are making history. I hope this event will encourage other differently abled individuals to join us in this exhilarating sport,” said Dlamini.

The Ballito Pro para surfing event stands as a testament to inclusivity and the boundless spirit of human potential. As spectators cheered on the surfers, the atmosphere was charged with a sense of unity, admiration, and inspiration.

Julia van Zyl of Made For More said being a part of this year’s Ballito Pro has been an absolute joy and privilege for her team.

It was an extraordinary day filled with special moments, and the overwhelming support received from the beachgoers and the local community in Ballito was truly incredible.

“The event stirred emotions, bringing tears to the eyes of spectators and smiles to the faces of the surfers. Witnessing the determination and commitment of our team, coaches, and volunteers was nothing short of inspiring. Their unwavering support and dedication made the day even more remarkable,” said Van Zyl.
