Eksteen and Daolio emerge victorious at Warrior Race

The race returned after a four-year break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than a thousand athletes braved the early morning cold on Saturday to conquer the Virgin Active Warrior Race at Manor House on the Seaton Estate.

Claude Eksteen and Sabrina Daolio emerged as this year’s Black-Ops Elite Warriors winners in the respective men’s and women’s races over 15km with 30 obstacles.

Each earned R10 000 in prize money.

Energy-sapping obstacles tested competitors’ fitness levels.

Eksteen, who also won the race in 2019 when it was held at Blythedale, completed the testing course in 1:09:58, while Daolio finished in 1:26:30.

Joining them on the podium were Thomas van Tonder (1:12:44) and Justin Landsberg (1:14:02) in the men’s category, and Trish Eksteen (1:39:32) and Lisha Sookan (1:51:53) in the women’s category.

In the 10km Commando Elite men’s race, Reynard de Bruin claimed the honours in 55:20 ahead of Ethan Esterhuizen (1:01:18) and Reghardt Maritz (1:01:21).

Claire Maujean won the women’s category in 1:27:16.

Noah Hugo (37:21),Tlholohelo Makamole (37:54) and Ronen de la Rey (38:17) were the top three finishers in the Rookie Elite men’s 5km event, with Jani Maritz (41:51), Kiara Hugo (42:01) and Aviyah Hendriks (42:20) dominating the women’s race.
