Celebrity golfers descend on Ballito for BCX SuperSport Shootout this weekend

Zimbali Country Club will host the 20th edition of the event, almost a decade since it was last played on the North Coast.

The popular BCX SuperSport Shootout golf tournament will return to Zimbali Country Club this weekend.

Some of the country’s biggest sporting names will tee it up for the 20th anniversary of the event, hosted for the first time on the North Coast since it was last at Zimbali in 2013 and 2015.

The shootout will call Zimbali Estate home for at least the next two events after moving from Fancourt Links.

It is South Africa’s biggest celebrity golf competition and pits team BCX against team SuperSport over three days of Ryder Cup style team action.

The event has drawn past Springbok captains, World Cup winners, Protea greats, Wimbledon stars and a raft of other sporting legends.

Government officials and representatives of corporate sponsors fill out the respective rosters.

The event was founded by former tennis player Kevin Curren in 2004 and has grown into a national spectacle broadcast live on SuperSport.

It is not open for public viewing, but you can follow all the action on TV.

Last year at Fancourt, team BCX triumphed 97 points to 95 and team SuperSport will surely be looking to go one better this time around.

Visit golfshootout.net for more information.

It will cap a busy period of golf at Zimbali Estate after the course hosted the Zimbali Invitational last week.

A full field of 144 golfers came out swinging in the four-ball alliance competition, which was won by Louis Peens, Lumkile Mtolo, Nelson Singh and Riaz Rehman on 93 points.

  • Note, this story differs from the print version, which incorrectly stated that this year’s event would be played for the first time on the North Coast. It had been played at Zimbali in 2013 and 2015.
