Dawnheights dominate weekend cricket fixtures

The final match on Sunday saw yet another won toss for Dawnheights, who unsurprisingly elected to set a total.

Dawnheights Cricket Club delivered a clean sweep in their recent fixtures.

Over a single weekend, the club’s A team grabbed back-to-back victories, while the veterans team delivered a win of their own.

The veterans played first in Kloof against Harlequins, scoring 154 all-out behind 33 from Mohammed Mather and low-20s from Mags Iyer and Mohammed Arshad.

After losing wickets early, it was Mather and Arshad’s seventh wicket partnership of 61 that salvaged a defendable score.

In response, Harlequins stuttered to 122 all-out with Bilal Ismail claiming 3 for 10, Nikky Misra grabbing 3 for 19 and Iyer again delivering with 3 for 23.

It was the turn of the A team for the next two fixtures at Gledhow, when they faced off against City Lads A and Lindelani Cricket Club on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

On Saturday, Dawnheights again batted first and posted a mammoth 223 for 7 in their allotted 30 overs.

Shivan Singh’s 66 and Wasim Sulaman’s 63 were the pick of the bunch.

The bowling line-up backed up their batsmen, skittling City Lads for just 59.

Sheldon Maduray had the best figures with 3 for 6, while Akshay Harrypersad and Salman Mohamed both claimed 3 for 18.

The final match on Sunday saw yet another won toss for Dawnheights, who unsurprisingly elected to set a total.

Their score off 133 all-out behind Surav Singh’s 32 might have put the club’s perfect record in jeopardy if not for another strong bowling showcase.

Avishkar Ramduth’s 6 for 21 were the best figures of the weekend, while Mayuran Logenathan’s 4 for 45 helped to ensure Lindelani were all-out for 103.
