iLembe demolish African Warriors in premier league clash

The Warriors eventually reached 172 in 27 overs before being sent packing.

The iLembe District Cricket team routed the African Warriors in their recent premier league meeting.

Facing off at the Kingsmead Oval (next to the main stadium), iLembe won the toss and got to punishing their opposition.

Four batsmen reached at least thirty, with the main foundation of the innings set by newcomer Chad Scott’s 87 off 67 and Adesh Bageloo’s 67 off 58.

After adding 49 from Bilal Mohammed Ismail and 31 from Raj Verma, iLembe posted a huge total of 322 for 9.

It was always going to be an uphill battle for the Warriors from there, but iLembe’s strong bowling attack ensured there was never so much as a chance for a successful chase.

Gareth Bishop was the chief destroyer, claiming 3 for 47, while the North Coasters also put in a solid shift in the field.

Khumbulani Ntuli took a box-office one-handed catch on the boundary and Saieshan Loganathan added a run out with a direct hit from mid-wicket.

The Warriors eventually reached 172 in 27 overs before being sent packing.

It is a promising platform for the rest of the season which will take place over the next few months and into next year.

The wider iLembe union also grabbed another boost via sponsorship for the local ‘B League’ for the first time.

KwaDukuza’s RTA Towing put up R7 000 in prize money for the teams who will now not only chase promotion but also a chance at claiming the funds.

It shows the growth of iLembe’s cricketing fraternity and strengthening of the ground roots teams will only pay positive dividends for the premier league outfit.
