Charl McLeod wins BCX SuperSport shoot-out

South Africa’s sport stars came out in force for the 20th edition of the BCX SuperSport Shootout last weekend.
Held at Zimbali Country Club for the third time, the shoot-out once again proved why it is the country’s biggest and best celebrity golf event.
Former World Cup winning Springbok captains John Smit and Francois Pienaar showed their golfing prowess, alongside a host of former Proteas, Bafana Bafana stars and many other South African sporting legends.
The players were split between team BCX and team SuperSport, with the rosters filled out by government officials and sponsor-invited golfers.
Golfers paired up for the Absa Superskills shoot-out on Friday, while the marquee Ryder Cup style team competition got underway over the weekend.

Protea legends Vernon Philander and Ashwell Prince claimed overall victory in the Superskills event on 27 points, a comfortable six points ahead of the Springbok pairing of Bryan Habana and Schalk Brits.
Prince also won the individual putting competition, while Brits made sure it was a rugby player who bagged the long drive award and bragging rights in the dressing room.
Fourth placed Alex Darko earned the closest to the pin prize.
In the team event, it was SuperSport who took this year’s trophy with a score of 96-93.
Former rugby Springbok Charl McLeod was the lowest scoring individual golfer at -8, while Michal Kotze and Sanah Gumede were the best better ball pairing at -14.
Aside from the (mostly!) fantastic golf on show, the event also has a well-supported fundraising component.
This year alone, more than R1.5-million was raised for the charities that the shoot-out supports, namely LIV Village, Gift of the Givers and The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.
It takes the overall funds raised by the event to R31.5-million in the 20 years it has been held.
Full scores are not up yet, but check golfshootout.net over the next few days to see how your favourite sport star fared.
