Ballito parkrunners muscle through muddy course

Local parkruns take place at Sugar Rush Park and at Numz Adventure Island in Tinley Manor every Saturday.

A muddy course after overnight rain could not keep Ballito parkrunners from enjoying the weekly event in good numbers on Saturday morning.

Hosted at Holla Trails at Sugar Rush Park, the free 5km event brought together 169 runners, joggers and walkers of all ages. Despite the challenging underfoot conditions, the mood remained upbeat as participants carefully made their way along the course.

In Saturday’s edition, eight runners achieved personal best times and 12 visitors from other areas were welcomed, while six people joined the parkrun family for the first time. The Ballito parkrun takes place every Saturday at 7am between October and March, and at 8am from April to September. Another local parkrun at Tinley Manor is held at Numz Adventure Island and runs at the same times.

Both are open to anyone at no cost, but newcomers must register online before attending and bring a scannable barcode to receive an official time.

The run is entirely organised by volunteers, who assist with marshalling, timekeeping and barcode scanning to ensure everything runs smoothly. Visit parkrun.co.za to find out more.
