Ballito residents raise 35k for Reach For A Dream at padel fundraiser

The popular charity enjoyed its first North Coast fundraising event.

Forty padel players rallied at Rockets Padel in Ballito last Friday, raising R35 000 for the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

Hosted by local conveyancing firm Araujo Attorneys, the charity event brought players together in a mixed Americano format. While teams battled it out for bragging rights on the court, the real victory was the funds raised to support children battling life-threatening illnesses.

Founded in 1988, Reach For A Dream is a South African non-profit that fulfils the dreams of children aged three to 18 facing critical medical conditions. By turning dreams into reality, the foundation aims to ease the emotional strain on young patients and their families, giving children hope and resilience.

“This is our first event in Ballito,” said Reach For A Dream KZN regional manager Kerry Donkin.

“We want people to know what our organisation is about and this is a great way to involve the community. Our goal is to encourage children to fight for their dreams and make the impossible possible.”

Runners up: Shae de Groot, Kerry Donkin, Daniela Boonzaier and Warren Tuck.

Araujo Umhlanga director Daniela Boonzaier said the firm’s Ballito practice opened 10 years ago and the company has long partnered with the NPO through events across the province.

After a four-and-a-half-hour tournament, Shane Govindsamy and Teneille White were crowned champions, with Shae de Groot and Warren Tuck finishing second. Khabonina Nkwelo and Alaister Peters placed third.

Govindsamy said he was proud to be part of the fundraiser.

“Teneille and I are grateful to be part of something that brings hope and joy to children facing life-threatening illnesses. It was great to see the padel community come together in support of such an important charity,” he said.
