KwaDukuza karate stars claim gold and silver at WUKF Nationals

The Elite Martial Arts Academy reinforced its strong provincial reputation.

Six athletes from KwaDukuza’s Elite Martial Arts Academy impressed against strong competition at the WUKF Nationals in Gqeberha last weekend.

Drishti Mohabir and Tyrique Rasool from Sanprè Academy, Kemeshen Pillay from Curro Salt Rock, Mawande Mpanza from Darnall Primary School and Reatile Mndawe and Thando Mndawe from Felixton College all enjoyed a strong showing against some of the country’s best karatekas.

Mohabir led the charge with gold medals in traditional kata and traditional kobudo long weapons, while Rasool secured gold in kobudo long weapons. Mndawe added to the medal tally with a silver in traditional kata.

Head instructor Kuben Pillay said he was proud of the hard work the group had put in to become competitive at a high level. The results reinforce Elite Martial Arts Academy’s reputation as one of the province’s leading dojos.
