Tongaat Panthers host successful 11km beach walk on Workers’ Day

The club has made it an annual fixture following the positive response.

Tongaat Panthers Athletic Club enjoyed a memorable Workers’ Day weekend, highlighted by the launch of its first community beach walk.

More than 80 participants took part in the 11km walk from Sea Belle Restaurant to the Silvermine Picket Fence fishing grounds, with clubs including Tongaat Legends, Tongaat Stars, Maidstone FC and Stanger Legends joining the fun. The event is set to become an annual fixture on May 1.

Tongaat Stars’ Marie Pillay commended the club’s community impact, while Tongaat Legends members Raffic Moosa and Kuben Govender said it was good for the clubs to work together.

“It was a pleasure to collaborate with other sports codes. You learn new ways to build endurance and the atmosphere was so electric you sometimes forget about soccer – you just want to keep walking or running!” said Moosa.

The weekend also featured a demanding 56km Comrades training run and the Hope Challenge, both successfully completed by club athletes.
