Ashton juniors’ shine on cricket tour

The team held their school’s name high as they delivered excellent results in the three very exciting fixtures against Dunvegan, Reddam and Hurleyvale.

Ashton Junior College spent the last week of their October holiday on their first cricket tour to Gauteng.

The team held their school’s name high as they delivered excellent results in the three very exciting fixtures against Dunvegan, Reddam and Hurleyvale.

Their first clash was against Dunvegan’s U13A team with the boys winning by three wickets. Marek Gough scored 51 not out.

The second game against Reddam Bedfordview’s U13A team was won by 75 runs with Gough scoring 35 runs and Robbie Pritchard scoring 58 runs not out.

Another star was Matt McCarter who took three wickets for five runs off five overs. After their first two games and in positive spirit the boys were hoping for a hat trick but Hurleyvale’s team was a little stronger and although Ashton scored 200 runs for seven wickets, Hurleyvale scored 202 runs for just three wickets.

Grant Knowles scored 40 runs and James Moss 51 not out out.

Head of Junior College sport, Gary Schneider said they were extremely proud of their boys.

“Our boys played against very competitive schools and gave an excellent account of themselves, and we are looking forward to the cricket season,” said Schneider.
