The prep team games provided an opportunity for enthusiastic young rugby players to experience playing in front of a crowd on a full-size field.

When the highly successful 12th Standard Bank Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival wrapped up, Umhlali Prep 1st XV was the only primary school team to remain unbeaten by the KZN u13 Ibutho development team.

Three primary school teams – Umhlali, Hillcrest Primary and Higbury – opened each day’s action, playing against the KZN development side.

Umhlali drew 20-20, while Hillcrest and Highbury were both beaten 12-36 and 20-38 respectively.

In the senior teams, Glenwood and Selborne College from East London also remained unbeaten.

Both won their first- and third-day fixtures, but their highly-anticipated match against each other was abandoned after lightning threatened players’ safety.
