Cheers to forty years!
Sweet treats celebrated the milestone of an even sweeter journey at the Wednesday Club’s 40th anniversary on Women’s Day
Forty years ago, 30 women from the Dolphin Coast set out to make a difference in the community and so they did.
Sweet treats celebrated the milestone of an even sweeter journey at the Wednesday Club’s 40th anniversary on Women’s Day.
Working from the Umhlali Methodist Church, the women who form the club provide support to charities in the Ballito and surrounding areas by arranging transport for the elderly to get to their appointments, knitting clothing for newborn babies at the Stanger Hospital and orphanages, providing food parcels to the needy and much more.
The club relies heavily on fund raising initiatives to keep afloat and driven purely by passion and love, so the ladies are often kept on their toes arranging events and meetings.
Speaking at the tea party fit for royalty, the Club’s Di Bowser said the organisation originally formed in 1977 as the Good Companions Club.
“A group of ladies originally started the club with the idea of helping the elderly.
“The focus later changed to help all the vulnerable on the Dolphin Coast. Some of the ladies are not with us today but they have worked to change the lives of many with their kindness and generosity.”
