Catwalk to a brighter future
"I feel like I owe my community this initiative to ensure that there is no child, especially the ones from the poor families, who finds it difficult to master their talent."
Growing up as an orphan and forced to chase her dreams on her own, an Etete beauty pageant guru now gives back to children who are in a similar situation. Dudu Seroke Mngomezulu, who is the 2015 Mrs Ambassador KZN Charity started her non-profit organization, Duduzile Foundation, to help children, especially girls, who have a passion for modeling, dancing and stage performance.
“I feel like I owe my community this initiative to ensure that there is no child, especially the ones from the poor families, who finds it difficult to master their talent. Although I do not have much, I know the value of a good support system and that is what I am prepared to give the children of my township,” said Mngomezulu.

She had entered countless beauty pageant competitions around the province, without the luck of winning, however, her perseverance and dedication paid off when she won Mrs Ambassador KZN Charity in 2015 in Durban. She feels that her height is her biggest barrier when it comes to winning.
“I am a short model and that is one of my disadvantages. However, I keep on entering to try and motivate people that no matter what shape and height, you can do what you desire. I always encourage the chubby and disabled children to not feel threatened if they want to enter a modeling competition.
“We are all beautiful in different ways.”
She trains more than 40 children at the Velani Community Hall every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Parents will for the first time get to see their children on the catwalk, competing for miss Velani Township on Saturday, December 2.
“I believe the children are ready to go and compete with other girls in modeling competitions, however, we thought it was a great idea for them to first compete in the first Miss Velani Township.”
Entrance fee will be R15 for adults and R10 for children. The money will be used to buy food for the orphans in the township.
