Eleven-year-old Thembeni talent, Nongcebo Langa, won the junior category, while Nikisha Gokol of Shaka's Head claimed the senior honours.

The second Ballito Junction Rising Talent Fest competition ended with superb performances on Saturday.

Eleven-year-old Thembeni talent, Nongcebo Langa, won the junior category, while Nikisha Gokol of Shaka’s Head claimed the senior honours.

Gokol won R10 000 for her school, North Coast Agricultural College, where she is in Grade 11 and R10 000 for herself.

Gokol’s mother, Judy, said they were super excited and proud of her daughter.

“She has been singing since the age of four and is part of the worship and praise group at church,” said proud mom Judy.

“Winning was a bonus because we were already proud of how she improved since the auditions.”

Junior winner Nongcebo took home R5000 for herself and R5000 for her school, North Coast Primary in KwaDukuza.

Her father, Musa Langa, said Nongcebo had been singing from a very young age.

“She would just compose a song and come and tell us that she wants to sing it. We had no choice but to drop everything and listen to her. I am still surprised she won because we just wanted to see if she would be able to perform in front of people she does not know.”

Ballito Junction’s marketing manager, Sashena Ramparsad, congratulated all the finalists on a phenomenal job.

“We commend their efforts and are excited to see this campaign go forward and support the growth of young local musicians and singers within the community.”
