Bowls duo win KZN title
Northlands Bowling Club shines at national pairs competition.
AFTER Northlands Bowling Club member, Maria Dreyer, clinched silver at the SA National bowls competition, the club now have double cause for celebration. As a successful partnership between Dreyer and Jill Buzzard, saw the duo being crowned KZN pairs champions.
What makes their achievement even more remarkable, is it has been 21 years since Northlands last won it, a feat not lost on them. “It’s the first time we’ve played together in the pairs and it certainly won’t be the last. The other clubs are going to have to wrench it out of our hands if they want this back,” Buzzard joked.
Dreyer said she was excited to make it to the final but to win it is even sweeter. “We are both chuffed with our performances and the other pairs members came up to us after the final and said they loved watching us play, which is a fantastic compliment,” she said. Among the records to fall at the Berea Bowling Club was the duo also managed to break the stranglehold of Louise Larkin whose name has appeared on the trophy with different partners for the last five years.
