Police cautions against violence at school
With a recent increase in violence at school, Greenwood Park SAPS has warned pupils not to get involved with gangs or violence at school.

THERE’S been a recent increase in violence at schools in the area according to Greenwood Park Police Station’s communication officer, Lt Elvis Naidoo.
Naidoo said the station was concerned about the increase in violence at schools, adding it undertook to increase patrols at the 17 schools in the area during the mornings and afternoons.
On Thursday 8 August, Lt Naidoo addressed one of the local schools to highlight the dangers of bullying, gang violence, carrying dangerous weapons and the consequences of violence at schools.
“We have noticed that pupils getting involved in fights and gang violence has been on the increase,” Naidoo said.
“We urge parents to take an active role in their children’s lives and check on the company they keep at school,” he added.
Naidoo said the procedure for children or teens charged with criminal cases is exactly the same as when an adult would be charged for the same offence.
“Children will be prosecuted in a court, a report from a social worker will be set up for the court, they may receive a suspended sentence and may also be expelled from their school, not to mention having a criminal record for the remainder of their lives,” Naidoo said.
