Give blood, save lives at Durban North blood drive
North Durban Lions Club and SANBS are calling on the community to donate blood and help save lives at a special Blood Donation Drive.
THE North Durban Lions Club is calling on residents to roll up their sleeves and help save lives at a Blood Donation Drive and Awareness Day in partnership with the SA National Blood Service (SANBS) later this month.

The community blood drive will take place on Saturday, August 29, from 09:00 to 14:00 at Pick n Pay Hypermarket by the Sea.
Lions president Grant Hobbs urged the community to get behind the initiative and recognise the difference a single donation can make.
“As Lions, serving our community and helping people in times of need is at the heart of what we do. Blood is something we can’t manufacture, and every donation has the potential to save lives. We wanted to hold this drive to bring the community together for a simple but incredibly meaningful act of giving. We hope people will come along, roll up their sleeves and join us in making a real difference because every drop counts and every donor matters,” said Hobbs.
That message is echoed by SANBS donor relations practitioner Dennis Ngongoma, who has repeatedly urged active, lapsed and potential donors to come forward and help maintain the province’s blood supply.
“We are calling on the public to help sustain the province’s need for blood. One unit of blood can save up to three lives,” said Ngongoma.
Residents are encouraged to attend as the Lions are hoping for a strong turnout throughout the day.
There will also be a range of activities and services on offer, including free blood sugar testing and free blood pressure testing. Visitors can enjoy surprises throughout the day, with Andreas Mathios serving as MC and a special appearance by Melvin the Mascot.
The drive is supported by sponsors Marshall Security, Durban North Pharmacy and Pick n Pay Hypermarket Durban North, making the initiative for the community possible.
