All things Zulu at Crawford

Crawford College La Lucia hosts its annual Zulu cultural evening.

CRAWFORD College La Lucia celebrated its second isiZulu Cultural Evening last month. The isiZulu Cultural Evening raises the profile of isiZulu, as a subject, and celebrates the school’s pupils’ love for the language and the progress they have made over the past two years.

The evening started with speeches from Sbongile Nzimande (head of department for arts and culture, sport and recreation) who represented Sbhidla-Saphetha, the MEC of Arts and Culture, Sport and Recreation, and from Alex Leitch. The entertainment included energetic dances by dance-groups, Iphezulu, Impendulo, Isihawu Productions together with gumboot dancing and songs. Each grade had to showcase their skills with short dramatic pieces in isiZulu. The evening’s activities culminated in a fashion show of ethnic designs, modeled by the Grade 11 pupils. During the evening, those who attended, were treated to a meal of traditional Zulu food.
