Gayle returns for Dolphins

Durbanites set for Gayle force conditions as the Jamaican returns for the T20 competition.

WEST Indies all-rounder, Chris Gayle, is set for a return to the Sunfoil Dolphins for the Ram Slam T20 competition this season.

The 34-year-old is widely regarded as the best 20-over batsman in the world and will return to the coastal union after his initial spell in the 2011/2012 season ended without playing a game.

“I am really excited to have joined the Sunfoil Dolphins for the new season. I feel there’s some unfinished business for me as I didn’t get to play for them back in 2012 due to injury,” he said.

Together with Graham Onions, Gayle becomes the Dolphins’ second overseas player for this competition.

President of KZNCU, Faeez Jaffar, said the signature of the Jamaican is a great scoop for the franchise. “Chris Gayle adds a great deal of international experience and adds depth to the team’s batting. The younger players will learn a great deal from the experience and exploits of a batting master.

“We believe that a player of his calibre will help re-ignite the spectator support that we once enjoyed and at present miss at the Sahara Stadium Kingsmead. We, at the board and at council are committed to bringing world class performers to play for the Dolphins,” he said.
