Police patrols pay off

Greenwood Park Police Station's increased patrols have paid off since its inception a few weeks ago.

GREENWOOD Park Police Station’s increased patrols have paid off since its inception a few weeks ago.

The station’s spokesman, Lt Elvis Naidoo, said while Greenwood Park Police Station’s entire precinct has been patrolling, a crime blitz in Quarry Heights and Kenville secured a number of arrests of drug dealers, drug users and businesses selling liquor without a licence.

“We’ve recovered dagga, cocaine, weapons and we confiscated liquor that was sold illegally, as well as any equipment used to sell the liquor, such as fridges and so on,” Lt Naidoo said.

He said there have also been a number of complaints regarding noise in these areas, “We confiscated speakers at a tavern as well.”

Lt Naidoo said the station is putting extra focus on drunk driving, illegal gambling and drag racing.

“There have been major roadblocks in the area, and more are to follow,” he added.

He said there might be a possibility of increased robberies as the festive season approaches and urged residents, banks and business owners to take extra care during this time of year.

“We are seeing the results of our increased patrols as there’s been a decrease of crime in the area. We have been deploying all available officers to patrol the Greenwood Park SAPS precinct,” Lt Naidoo said.
