AN Inanda Tactical Response Team officer has been arrested for his involvement in a number of crimes in various areas.
According to Greenwood Park SAPS spokesman, Lt Elvis Naidoo, a Kenville resident parked his car outside his house on Wednesday night, 20 November.
“At 5.05am the man’s neighbour called him to inform him that two men were trying to break into his car. He then contacted Greenwood Park SAPS, who rushed to the scene,” Lt Naidoo said.
The two thieves sped off in a silver VW Polo when police arrived, but crashed the car shortly afterwards.
Greenwood Park SAPS officers then arrested the men for being in possession of house break-in implements and for attempted theft of vehicle.
“It was then found that the officer, Cst Jefrey Maya, and his accomplice, Mthandwa Ngubane, were linked to various house break-ins, house robberies, hijacks and theft of vehicles in Newlands, Inanda, Durban Central, Durban North, Greenwood Park and various other areas. Both appeared in court and the case has been postponed to a later date,” Lt Naidoo said.
“A special task team has been formed to deal with the investigation. We hope that a number of cases will be solved thanks to this arrest,” he said.
“We won’t tolerate any officers involved in crime and we’ll make any effort to ensure these officers face the law. We are pursuing this case at the highest level. Police have been looking for these men for months.
“We commend the Greenwood Park SAPS officers for their swift action in securing this arrest,” Lt Naidoo said.
