Resident’s react to Chartwell Drive drug bust

Residents say rented property was completely anonymous.

RESIDENTS of Chartwell Drive say they’re alarmed at last week’s discovery of a multi-million rand heroin and mandrax drug-dealing syndicate which was operating from a rented property.

Spike Farrell, who has lived on Chartwell Drive for 20 year’s said he was shocked the house was being used as for such nefarious purposes. “The house in question is an older property, completely anonymous, a house no-one looked twice. This is just not right.

“It is not something you expect in your neighbourhood, and something like this brings in an element no-one wants here. It’s a growth industry with the promise of easy money, and if there wasn’t a market for it here, the dealers would not exist. The police have done a splendid job in this instance,” he said.

Farrell added that drugs go where the money is. “If you live in this town for long enough, you start to pick up who is involved in the selling of these items, in fact, you can see them on the streets, and also some of them take up residence at certain street cafes in the mornings, and the bars at night, to do business,” he said.
