Man dies after head on collision causes his car to burst into flames.

A MAN died and a woman was injured when two cars collided on the N2 south just after the M41 on-ramp near Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban, on Tuesday at about 5.30pm, paramedics said. Crisis Medical Paramedics responded to reports of a serious collision on the N2 south after the M41 on-ramp.

Crisis Medical spokesman, Neil Powell, said paramedics found a white Lexus sedan totally engulfed in flames. “A female in a white BMW who was involved in the collision suffered moderate injuries. The injured lady was stabilized on scene before being transported to an area hospital for further care.

“Kurt’s Towing & Recovery drivers arrived on scene and went to assist the driver of the Lexus. They noticed the man was entrapped and assured him help was on the way. Without warning, the car started to alight. Tow truck drivers rushed to use eight fire extinguishes in an attempt to douse the flames however the flames became too big and there was no further assistance they could render him. Regrettably the trapped man died due to the fire,” he said.

Powell added it is believed the female of the BMW lost control, crossed the centre medium and slammed into the Lexus in a head on manner.
